The ministerial meeting of the Caspian littoral states will be held with participation of foreign ministers from Iran, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Russia and the host country in Kazakhstan's northwestern city of Aktau.
The fifth summit of the heads of Caspian littoral states is slated for Sunday. The summit will bring together the heads of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran and Turkmenistan to discuss and sign the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.
The previous Caspian ministerial meeting was held on 4-5 Sep. 2017 in Moscow during which the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea was drawn up. It is expected that the Convention will be signed at the Aktau summit on Aug. 12.
Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev said Saturday that “a historic decision” will be made at this year's summit;
"During the last 20 years we have been holding talks, rather difficult ones, to agree our approaches, to solve all the issues regarding our cooperation at the Caspian Sea… I believe all issues have been agreed, we are expecting a historic decision to be made tomorrow," Sputnik quoted Nazarbayev as saying.
According to him, the talks focused on ship routes, resources, environment and trade.
